[Washington DC, January 8, 2007] nextPix, a film/media production company, announced today that Don Thompson's film CLOUDS will be released on DVD through nextPix and Passion River Films.

CLOUDS was originally released theatrically (limited) by IN Pictures in 2000 and then on VHS video in 2001. Now audiences will be able to enjoy the higher quality images that DVD has to offer. States director Don Thompson: "CLOUDS is a beautiful black and white film, one that takes inspiration from art films of the 60's. This DVD release really allows people to see CLOUDS very close to the way it was screened in theaters."

A winner of awards and special recognition at 6 films festivals, CLOUDS went on to a world premiere at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, New York City. Notably, the film was co-produced by Will Arntz, producer/director of WHAT THE BLEEP (released in 2005), which dealt with similar themes as CLOUDS. Arntz also co-produced Thompson's play TIBET DOES NOT EXIST in New York City in 1997 at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.

Like WHAT THE BLEEP, CLOUDS deals with spiritual themes, but in the context of a dramatic narrative that focuses on a very human story. Starring Michael Patrick Gaffney as a disillusioned physicist working on a troubling new 'cosmology', CLOUDS explores the modern collision of science and spirituality and how both must ultimately be reconciled. To the protagonist, this reconciliation is embodied in the film's heroine, a mysterious and alluring beauty who seems to represent nature itself. The film urgently describes, prior to 9/11, how "the world must learn to love." Filmmaker Thompson has often stated that CLOUDs was ahead of its time, as if he made it for a world post 9-11.

Founded in 2001, nextPix was conceived as a production company with a focus on "humanistic" media that would promote and produce films and filmmakers with an alternative vision to Hollywood. Within the context of this mission statement, the company has provided finishing funds to several (mostly documentary) filmmakers, including several whose films have gone on to theatrical and/or television distribution, as well as entry into major festivals such as Sundance, Montreal, and Chicago Documentary. The company has also produced or co-produced two feature films and one documentary, and is developing the narrative feature film THE MESSENGER, due for release in 2008.
