[Washington DC, June 21, 2015] nextPix, a film/media production company, celebrates 15 years of producing and supporting independent film, media and theatre. The company is proud to be a part of the ever-evolving media landscape that continues to grapple with the impact of the digital revolution.

Since 2000, nextPix has produced and/or supported groundbreaking cinema, web content, books and theatre. Beginning with the theatrical release (limited) of the company's first film CLOUDS with IN Pictures in 2000, the company has been involved with dozens of media, film and theatrical projects that have included documentaries, narrative features, multi-media theatrical events, webzines and plays.

Many of the company's projects have been award winning. TIBET IN SONG, co-produced with director Ngawang Choephel, won a Special Jury Prize at the 2009 Sundance Film Featival and the International Human Rights Film Award at Cinema for Peace. In 2015, Hal Hartley's NED RIFLE (executive producer Don Thompson) won a Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and was ranked among the top 15 films of 2015 by IndieWire.

The nextPix 'firstPix' program, a grant program that has more recently morphed into a crowd funding support platform, has provided grants to over twenty filmmakers since 2001. Some of the films, such as WE WOMEN WARRIORS, SINGING THE BONES and RECOVERING IRMA went on to receive additional support and funding. Many of the firstPix films have won awards and seen significant festival and/or theatrical releases.

As an essayist, nextPix president Don Thompson (in collaboration with Del Sol Press) has completed two books based on work he has done with affiliate webzines: Your Life Is A Movie (Solpix webzine) and A World Without War (The Potomac Journal). These books reflect Thompson's activist stance toward media, where he believes media providers have a responsibility to produce content that favors a humanistic and sustainable world.

The company has also partnered with the Maryland Ensemble Theater (MET) on numerous theatre projects, including Don Thompson's plays THE GOD OF THIS WORLD and DEMOCRACY: A WORK IN PROGRESS, as well as the collaborative ensemble piece SOMETHING BRILLIANT.

More recently the company has developed a slate of larger budget films with the hopes of moving into the mainstream market with films and media that provoke thought even as they entertain. To do this Thompson and partner Diana Takata do not want to abandon the independent spirit of nextPix, but instead expand the vision to a wider audience.
