NEXTPIX MARKS ITS TWENTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY

[Washington DC, September 21, 2020] nextPix, a film/media production company founded by Don Thompson and Diana Takata, celebrates its twentieth year of producing and supporting uniquely independent film, media and theatre.

Since 2000, nextPix has produced, co-produced and co-funded dozens of award-winning films, theater productions and publications. Starting with the theatrical release (limited) of the company's first film CLOUDS with IN Pictures in 2000, the company has been involved with over twenty five films that have included both documentaries and narrative features. Films that the company has produced and/or supported have screened at major film festivals worldwide, including Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Berlin, Busan, and others, often winning top prizes and going on to theatrical release.

The company has helped jumpstart the careers of several award-winning filmmakers across multiple countries, including Prithvi Konanur (RAILWAY CHILDREN - India), A.B. Shawky (YOMEDDINE - Egypt) and Andres Bronnimann (THE UNIVERSALITY OF IT ALL - Costa Rica). YOMEDDINE premiered in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, where it won the François Chalais Prize.

The company is particularly proud to have assisted first time American women documentary filmmakers, including Ashley O'Shay (UNAPOLOGETIC), Erin McGoff (THIS LITTLE LAND OF MINES), Eve Morgenstern (CHESHIRE, OHIO) and Sandra Salas (A JOURNEY INTO THE STORM).

nextPix is also happy to have supported American auteur filmmaker Hal Hartley for two feature films: NED RIFLE (2014) and the upcoming WHERE TO LAND, scheduled for completion in 2021. In 2015, NED RIFLE (executive producer Don Thompson) won a Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and was ranked among the top films of 2015 by IndieWire.

The company has also continued to produce and promote Don Thompson's work. Thompson's play THE GOD OF THIS WORLD, first produced in 2015 by the Maryland Ensemble Theater, was recognized by Indie Theater Now as one of the most "interesting, innovative, challenging and pertinent plays of the past year" — one of 12 new plays included in ITN's 'Plays and Playwrights 2017' anthology. A video of the production is available for streaming via nextPix.

More recently, Don Thompson also began directing his own music videos and other documentary works, including the award-winning video essay SIGNS OF A REBEL BUDDHA (2020). In addition, Thompson's feature film screenplays have received recognition by a variety of festivals and competitions, including the Los Angeles Film Awards, WorldFest Houston, Festigious International Film Festival, Filmmatic Screenplay Awards, and others.

The feature film MEDEA, SOUTH CAROLINA, based on Thompson's award-winning screenplay, is in the pipeline for production in 2021, starring Scottie Thompson and Cullen Douglas and executive produced by Anne Clements (CHICK FIGHT, QUINCEANERA).

In addition to its documentary and feature work in the indie film space, the company continues to develop its slate of larger budget films aimed at a more mainstream audience, including the WWII drama KALTENHOUSE and an adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's classic novel VILLETTE. Both films are scripted by Don Thompson and adhere to the commitment of the company to create 'humanistic' media that reflects the human experience in a positive light.
