DEMOCRACY:
A WORK IN PROGRESS is an innovative, non-linear play that deals
with the origins and outcomes of democracy. An original production
of the Maryland Ensemble Theater, DEMOCRACY is a unique, entertaining
and thought-provoking look at conceptions and mis-conceptions about
what democracy has meant throughout history. By humanizing the past
and satirizing the present, the play aims to help citizens become
more aware of their democratic origins and ideals -- all with a
dose of humor and pathos.
"DEMOCRACY:
A WORK IN PROGRESS, Don Thompson's historic, philosophical meditation
on civic life... looks at both the strength and fragility of participatory
government." Jane Horwitz, WASHINGTON POST

"Art
with the most effective messages touches you on such a profound
and intimate level that it's hard to put your feelings into words.
Such is the case with DEMOCRACY: A WORK IN PROGRESS, which compels
audience members to not only think about politics and society, but
yourself." --
N. Magruder, MARYLAND GAZETTE
"Just
in time for independence day, the Maryland Ensemble Theater has
revived DEMOCRACY: A WORK IN PROGRESS. Effective [and] moving…
the audience gets a clear picture of democracy as an ever-evolving
form of government.” --
J. Wynn Rousuck, Baltimore Sun
